Establishing Christian A World View
Knowing What God Commands Jesus’ world view was based upon obedience to the will of God. He knew, and so should we, what Scripture says about the source of meaningful knowledge and wisdom. To inform ourselves concerning a Christian world view, we must learn what God has shown us in His word, and commit to keeping that word.
Learning To Fear God Proverbs 2:1-5 – My son, if you will receive my words and treasure my commandments within you, make your ear attentive to wisdom, incline your heart to understanding; For if you cry for discernment, lift your voice for understanding; then you will discern the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.”
elements in Learning To Fear God Willingness to receive God’s word Ambition to treasure His commandments Ears that are attentive Hearts that are “stretched out” Cry out for understanding Seek understanding as if a treasure
God Is Pleased To Provide For US Proverbs 2:6-9 – “For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice, and He preserves the way of His godly ones. Then you will discern righteousness and justice and equity and every good course.”
Finding the good course Know that true wisdom comes from God. How much of your wisdom for life in this world comes directly from God? God is a shield for those who walk in integrity His is the way that brings justice. He brings discernment concerning justice and righteousness.
Worldly Wisdom Is deceptive Colossians 2:8 – See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. Where society/government/academia disagree with God, they are empty deception.
Marketplace of competing ideas Satan weaves webs of deceit by twisting God’s clear word with intricate deceptions. Like shopping amidst all the promises of, “New and Improved”, “Bigger and Better”, “New Bolder Flavor,” and, “Better than the leading competitor”. Worldly wisdom is quicker, but not better.
Proactively Seeking God’s Way Deuteronomy 6:6-9 – “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Why Do You Suppose Satan… Works so hard to keep God’s word from public places? Works so hard to cause our government to interfere in preaching/ Bible teaching? Even now they pressure preachers to conform to government mandates and popular attitudes? Fills our minds with demonic ideas via television, radio, books, magazines and other information exchange mediums?
So We Are Charged To fight A battle for freedom of our minds Romans 12:1-2 – “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
The Sacrifice Of Transformation Requires us to willingly turn our backs on the world and pursue God’s will alone. Alienates us from mainstream thinking – politically, socially, civically, motivationally. Makes us enemies of the world.
Fighting Against the Enemy 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 – “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ….”
Fearing God Is Demanding Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 -- “The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil.” Every act – private or public – will be judged by God.
Where Do We Go For Guidance? Proverbs 3:5-7 – “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.” My understanding will be flawed if it is not His understanding.
The Choice Is Life Or Death 1 Timothy 4:1-2, 11, 16 – “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and the doctrines of demons, by means of they hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron….Prescribe and teach these things….Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.”
Taking Pains With These Things 1 Timothy 4:15 – “Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.” A spiritual mindset takes time, patience and even pains. Are we willing to be completely absorbed in the mind of Christ?
