Earning Service Points The National Beta Club is a service organization. Each Beta member is required to earn 100 points per school year. Points may be earned for selling concessions at any game, participating in after school activities, trying out and participating in district or state convention, selling tickets for a dance, working a dance, and participating in a service project.

School Sponsored Service Opportunities 2011/2012

Boo Grams The Mission: Beta members will sell candy grams to the entire student body before school and at recess October 24th- 28th. Students will deliver Boo Grams October 31st. Get Involved: Sign up to sell candy grams at recess and before school. Sign up to bring in candy for the candy grams. Sign up to put the boo grams together. Sign up to distribute boo grams during 1st hour. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

E.B. Awareness Week The Mission: For Beta members to raise money for Tripp Roth, a 2 ½ year old boy suffering from E.B.. Get Involved: Create posters about E.B. awareness and sign up to collect donations. The dates are still being finalized. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Veterans Day Posters The Mission: Beta members will create posters, banners, and flags with the theme “Thank you Military”. Get Involved: Create posters thanking the military for their service. Due to Mrs. LaPlace no later than October 26th. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

St. Vincent De Paul’s Food Bank The Mission: Through volunteerism and donations, the organization seeks to provide food to the needy throughout Baton Rouge and the surrounding parishes. Get Involved: The school will host a food drive where the entire student body will have the opportunity to donate nonperishable food items to St. Vincent De Paul’s Food Bank. This will be held November 14th-18th. Points: Each canned good donated will be worth 3 service points, up to 15 service points may be earned.

Toys for Tots The Mission: The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. Get Involved: Through the Beta club, the entire student body will have the opportunity to donate toys to this organization through the Beta club. This will be held from November 28th-December 16th. All toys should be brought to Mrs. LaPlace in room 302. Points: Each toy donated will be worth 5 service points, up to 15 service points may be earned. Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Coats for Kids The Mission: With the cold weather quickly approaching, Coats for Kids will collect any child’s size coat or monetary donation for needy children in our area. Get Involved: Through the 4-H club, the entire student body will have the opportunity to donate old coats, especially those for elementary and middle school students. Points: Each coat donated will be worth 5 service points, up to 15 service points may be earned.

Library Book Drive The Mission: Our library has a VERY limited number of books and could greatly benefit from book donations. Get Involved: Donate books to our school library. Books should be in good condition and fall into the categories of middle school or young adult appropriate. Points: Each book donated will be worth 3 service points, up to 15 service points may be earned.

Valentine Candy Grams The Mission: Beta members will sell candy grams to the entire student body before school and at recess. Get Involved: Sign up to sell candy grams at recess and before school. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Mardi Grams The Mission: Beta members will sell candy grams to the entire student body before school and at recess. Get Involved: Sign up to sell candy grams at recess and before school. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Teacher Appreciation Week The Mission: Beta members will provide gifts for faculty and staff during teacher appreciation week. Get Involved: Beta members will volunteer to provide gifts and sponsor a luncheon for faculty on the last day of the week. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 15 service points.

Teacher Appreciation Letters The Mission: The week before teacher appreciation week Beta members will write thank you letters to teachers and display them on the teacher’s door or place them in the teacher’s mailbox. Get Involved: Volunteer to write a letter to a teacher at Juban Parc to show your appreciation for all that they do to help you succeed. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Operation Clean Sweep The Mission: The Beta club will participate in a campus beautification project in order to keep our brand new campus clean. Get Involved: 1 week in May, Beta members will sign up to pick up trash and debris around campus. Points: Participation in this service project will be worth 10 service points.

Volunteer at a Nursing Home The Mission: Life in a nursing home, even the best of nursing homes, is often confusing, frustrating, scary, and lonely. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, more than 50 percent of nursing home residents have no close relatives, and 46 percent have no living children. As such, nursing homes are in desperate need of volunteers to spend time with residents. Get Involved: Nursing home volunteer opportunities can include spending time with a resident, playing cards, talking, taking a walk, or sharing a meal. To get involved please contact one of the nursing homes in our area. Points: Students can earn 10 points for every hour spent volunteering at a nursing home.

Volunteer at an animal shelter The Mission: Volunteering at your local animal shelter or humane society is a meaningful way to make a difference in the lives of homeless dogs and cats in your community. Get Involved: Volunteers provide daily exercise, affection and socialization that confined dogs and cats need to stay healthy, happy and adoptable. To volunteer contact the animal welfare organizations in our area. Points: Students can earn 10 points for every hour spent volunteering for an animal welfare organization.

Contribute to a Charity The Mission: There are thousands of charities out there that desperately need volunteers. Get Involved: Find a charity that inspires you and look for ways to help out that organization. Points: Students can earn 10 points for every hour spent volunteering.
