Current State X multiple benches in 11 labs 2,669 items Issues: Orders are received at random times in the labs, causing disruption of bench work Bench Work Unpack Receive and Resolve Order Issues Put Away Order Remove Packaging Materials Monitor Stock Levels Bench Work is disrupted by supply tasks, which may cause errors Common Supplies Lab Specific Supplies Areas do not have space to unpack and dispose of packaging material, resulting in messy work areas and corridors Common items are being ordered by multiple areas X multiple benches in 11 labs 2,669 items Stock level monitoring is not process dependent Visual Management is not broadly established to manage order points Each lab is responsible for supply management, Including: Ordering, Receiving, Resolving Order Issues, Unpacking, Packaging Material Removal, Putting Items Away, and Monitoring Stock Levels

Ideal Future State Advantages: Reduce interruptions to Lab Bench Work Remove Packaging Material Supply Levels will be monitored through visual management, reducing the need for time consuming inventory counts Put Away Monitor Stock Levels Unpack Unpack Supply ordering and receiving can be scheduled into the Lab Bench Work time. Patient Stories In 2018, a large portion of the Pathology department will move off-site, remote from daily contact with patients Drawing inspiration from the desire to keep the patient at the center of our work, and from recent campaigns at Michigan Medicine, there is a multi-disciplinary effort to tell the patient story within Pathology spaces Multiple ways to tell the story Interior Design—art, wall-hanging, “wrap” around columns in labs, digital displays and other methods Content / Stories – to be developed in conjunction with PFAC Technical assistance -- Further descriptions or background will be available on the website
