Curriculum This course will explore why and how characters are driven by power, greed and revenge. We will ask ourselves, “when does ambition drive characters to go too far to achieve their goals?” Consequently, we will also analyze when and how these power-hungry actions inspire other characters to take revenge. Finally, we will question whether or not revenge and vengeance provide satisfaction. The texts we will study will take us on a thrilling, psychological and suspenseful journey through the darker side of humanity.

Curriculum We are finishing up our unit on Shakespeare’s bloodiest play: Macbeth We focus on character development, analyzing Shakespearean language, and the impact of revenge

Curriculum Next, we turn to graphic novels. Students will read V for Vendetta Class will run in a literature circle for approximately two weeks, concluding with an in-class essay Additionally, each lit circle group will complete a project on the novels

Curriculum We will also read Margaret Atwood’s masterful The Handmaid’s Tale to continue our discussion of the corruption of power. Clips of the Emmy-Award Winning Hulu TV series will be viewed. We will do research on totalitarian governments and students will ultimately present to the class

Curriculum While not an official unit, students have spent time in class workshopping their college essays and will continue to do so throughout the fall

Grades Grades remain a total points system. Each marking period, we will tell the students the approximate number of points. MP1 will have about 250 points. Students know it is their responsibility to share this information with you.

Grades Each marking period is worth 22%. There is one final at the end of the fourth MP. Please check Parent Resource to keep up-to-date with your child’s grade Assignments and announcements will be posted on Google Classroom. Students are expected to share log-in information so that you can see the class posts as well.

Expectations Complete assignments fully, to the best of your ability, and on time Come prepared to class with a binder, pen, pencil, paper and the book we’re reading Personal integrity is key on all assignments Do your best and have fun!

Things to remember 3 lates equal a teacher detention. 6 lates equal an office referral Any plagiarism will result in a zero for the assignment and school disciplinary action

Thank you and we look forward to working together with you for a successful year!
