BACKGROUND European Court of Justice Ruling 2002 Annex 14 List Ireland in breech of obligations under Drinking Water Directive Annex 14 List 819 Group Water Schemes non compliant with bacteriological standards EU Commission: Schemes < 50 persons excluded from Action Plan 453 schemes serving > 50 persons or having a commercial supply element Additional Schemes 274 private schemes fall within remit of DWD

CONCLUSIONS 18 Counties in Annex 14 List Schemes which now come under the remit of the DWD are identified in 26 Local Authorities Sampling from 53% of Schemes comply with DWD while 55% of 91,776 domestic connections on 727 schemes are compliant Only 45% of schemes with Private sources are compliant Of 91,776 domestic connections on GWS nationwide 38% of treatment solutions are complete 45% of treatment solutions are underway 17% are still in planning DBO solutions are much further advanced than other solutions with 93% of scheme solutions complete or underway Only 27% of solutions involving connection to public mains are complete or underway
