Roads Their roads were important as it helped with survival and defense for the troops to get around the empire. The roads were wide, straight and durable. Roads were built : Dig a trench Fill the hole with large stones. Cover with a layer of smaller stones Top layer was made with gravel, small flints or stone slabs. Agger – When you pile earth and lay stones on top of the gravel to make a foundation

Aqueducts Aqueduct - was a stone channels built above ground that was supported by arches or bridges. It was used to transport water to cities and towns throughout Rome. The Romans built wells and reservoirs in the cities to store the water that was transported from the aqueducts.

Mathematics Only used seven symbols in their number systems. Roman Numerals are used today. Popes and Monarchs were given Roman Numerals to distinguish their identical names. They had no concept of zero.

Time The Romans likely got their first calendar from the Greeks. The calendar was changed several times. The Julian Calendar in 45 BCE had 365 days with an extra day added to February every four years. It had 12 months. The Julian calendar is the same as the one we use today.

Medicine Main sources of medicine were herbs, amulets and prayers. Doctors were looked upon in suspicion because they were Greeks or slaves. Julius Caesar valued doctors the most and in return he gave them Roman citizenship. The doctors dissected an ape to learn about the human anatomy.
