Grammar workshop IUS Writing Center

Research motivation Many students enter college with insufficient knowledge of grammar rules. The Writing Center is not a “fix it shop” To provide resources to students that need help with grammar

Research Conducted 50 Students from different class standing and different majors were asked to identify the sentence with correct punctuation Out of four sentences, one was correct.

Students were asked if they would attend a grammar workshop on campus THE CRUX OF THE PROBLEM Students were asked if they would attend a grammar workshop on campus

MOST COMMON GRAMMAR ERRORS Survey results, interviews with Writing Center Consultants, and input from Writing Center faculty yielded these common errors: Sentences Rules Corrections Commas Usage Comma Splices
