Timings Q.1 “What can you learn…?” 6 marks 6 minutes Q. 2 What was the purpose of Source….? 8 marks 12 minutes Q.3 Use Source ? and your own knowledge to explain why…….. 10 marks 15 minutes Q.4 How useful/ reliable are ? and ? as evidence of.....? 10 marks 15 minutes Q.5 Source ? suggests that……………. How far do you agree? Use the sources mentioned and your own knowledge. 16 + 3 SpAG marks 30 minutes

How to answer Question 1 What can you learn from a source? 2 points that it shows What it suggests about people’s attitudes, feelings etc. Back up with quotes. Begin “This source suggests…”

How to answer Question 2 What was the purpose of a source? Say why it was published and use quotes or details to back this up. Use your own knowledge to explain what the author wants you to do or think. Begin: “The purpose of this is …….”

How to answer Question 3 Use source ? and your own knowledge to explain why… Look for information in the source that can be used to explain about the event in the question. Add in your own knowledge about why the event happened, etc. For higher levels link your knowledge with what you can learn from the source.

How to answer Question 4 How useful/reliable are sources X and Y about ….? Say what the sources show or tell. Says why you might trust/use it or might not. Says what it doesn’t show/tell

Use the 3 sources mentioned and your own knowledge. 16 + 3 SpAG marks 30 minutes This is NOT asking whether the statement is right, but whether THE SOURCES agree with it. YOU MUST PLAN: - Do ways they do and don’t agree Give details from the sources Give other FACTS to back up your view Say whether some sources are more reliable than others Include a final par that answers the question Compare the sources – “unlike source z….” etc Use a minimum of the 3 sources mentioned.
