Presentation transcript:

The Imperfect… take notes somewhere The imperfect tense is used to refer to actions in the past that occurred repeatedly. I used to walk every day. Yo caminaba todos los días.

The imperfect… continued The imperfect tense is also used to refer to actions in the past that occurred over an extended period of time. I used to eat hamburgers frequently. Yo comía hamburguesas frecuentemente.

More Imperfect The imperfect tense is also used to "set the stage" for an event that occurred in the past. We were coming home when we saw Juan. Veníamos a casa cuando vimos a Juan.

Keep writing this down Actions which are not physical, that is feelings and mental actions, usually use the imperfect tense. Felix was feeling sick. Felix estaba enfermo.

This is also good to write down. The imperfect is frequently associated with phrases that describe the frequency of past actions. A menudo = oftenA veces = sometimes Mucho = a lotTodo el tiempo = all the time Siempre = alwaysNunca = never

You NEED to write this down Regular forms of the imperfect are formed by adding the following endings to the stem of the verb: ar er/ir YoHabl-abaViv-ía TúHabl-abasViv-ías Él(la)Habl-abaViv-ía Nos.Habl-ábamosViv-íamos Ust.Habl-abanViv-ían Ellos(as)Habl-abanViv-ían

One last thing you must know… Only three verbs are irregular in the imperfect: SerVerIr YoEraVeíaIba TúErasVeíasIbas Él(la)EraVeíaIba Nos.ÉramosVeíamosÍbamos Ust.EranVeíanIban Ellos(as)EranVeíanIban
