Topic Argument Support Tell me more Your transition

Topic To start off your body paragraphs, you should always begin with a topic sentence. This sentence is a statement that introduces the reader to the claim you are about to make. For example, if I’m writing an essay about why dogs are better than cats, I might start off my first body paragraph like this: It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend.

Argument In our case, argument is just another word for claim. When you are writing a paper, the argument is the main point you are making in the paragraph. Arguments are supposed to prove your thesis. It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend. Not only do dogs help their owners feel good about themselves, but they make other people feel better too.

Support Now that you’ve made a claim you’ll need to support that claim. You should include quotes from the articles you have read or the research you may do. It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend. Not only do dogs help their owners feel good about themselves, but they make other people feel better too. "Pet dogs can act as catalysts for human social interactions, and it has been suggested this may enhance feelings of well-being“ (Spector 1).

Tell me more What was the significance of the supporting evidence you used? Summarize it and further support your main idea. You want to really convince your reader to be on your side. It is commonly known that dog is man’s best friend. Not only do dogs help their owners feel good about themselves, but they make other people feel better too. "Pet dogs can act as catalysts for human social interactions, and it has been suggested this may enhance feelings of well-being“ (Spector 1). Unlike cats, dogs portray friendly and loyal behavior that effects their owners in a positive way.

Your transition Now that you’ve finished making your point, you’ll need to make a transition that will bridge your first body paragraph and your next body paragraph. Although cats may appear cute and cuddly, they have a dark side that causes dogs to be more likeable than them.

Topic- Introduction into argument Topic- Introduction into argument. Argument- The idea you are trying to prove to your reader. Support- Quotations or ideas taken directly from the article. Tell me more- Explain the quote and further back your argument. Your transition- A sentence that bridges your paragraphs together.
