Problem statement The teacher does not have sufficient space in the classroom to utilize a set of quality speakers. One speaker sits on the floor and one sits on top of a bookshelf, thus occupying space that is needed for classroom activities and storage. Also, the sound quality is poor due to the current arrangement.

Design statement Design a speaker support system that will allow the two speakers to be securely mounted to the classroom’s concrete block wall(s).

Constraints Design must be ready for manufacturing in 2 weeks. Each speaker is 12”H x 9”W x 9”D. Each speaker weighs 10 lbs. The system must be able to fit in a 11”x 8.5”x 5.5” USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Box for shipping purposes (not including the speakers). The system must weigh under 20 lbs (not including the weight of the speakers). Must be mechanically fastened to a concrete block wall (mechanical fasteners provided by the clients). System must allow speakers to be adjusted by tilting forward/backward and panning left/right.

Our solution

What did we do? We created a speaker support that consists of a platform (platform supports the speaker) that can remain at a horizontal level thanks to the use of two separate adjustment arms.

Wall-plate Attaches the assembly to the wall Made out of aluminum-6061 Has spot for arm1 to attach to Said spot has divots to hold vertical adjustment in place

Arm 1 Arm that attaches to the wall-plate. Arm2 attaches to this arm. Made out of Aluminum-6061 Has divots on each end to hold vertical adjustments in place

Arm 2 This is the arm the support plate attaches to. Made out of Aluminum-6061 Attaches to Arm1 Has divots to hold vertical adjustment in place

Support-plate Attaches to arm2 by use of bolt2 and screw3 Supports the speaker Made out of aluminum-6061

Screw 1 Attaches arm1 to both arm2 and the wallplate Made out of stainless steel Fastened by bolt 1

Screw 2 Attaches the wall-plate to the wall Made out of stainless-steel

Screw3 Attaches support-plate to arm2 Fastens to bolt2 Made out of stainless steel

Bolt 1 Attaches Arm1 to both the wall-plate and Arm2. Fastens screw1 Made out of stainless steel

Bolt 2 Attaches the support-plate to arm2 Fastens screw3 Made out of stainless steel
