Welcome to Sixth Grade! Ms. Lederman 6th Grade General Education Teacher 10th Year in Monroe Township School District Graduate of William Paterson University as an English Writing Major with a dual certification in P-3/K-5 education. Overview of Curriculum English Language Arts (56 minutes) Aligned to Common Core Curriculum Content Standards

English Language Arts Reading Language Arts Reader’s Workshop Writer’s Workshop Responses to text Argumentative Research/Informational Script Writing (Play) Grammar & Writing Skills Word Study

Composition Notebooks Stored in separate Ziploc bags Organized in sections – (set-up will take place in class) Reader’s Notebook will include: Class notes, reading responses, reference paste-ins, rubrics, etc. Writer’s Notebook will include: Reference paste-ins, writing models, rubrics, student drafts & revisions, etc.

Homework Independent Reading – Students are expected to read every night as well as demonstrate good reading habits. They will be taught various strategies and practice in class to help make them stronger readers. MP1 – 15 minutes MP2 – 20 minutes MP3 – 25 minutes MP4 – 30 minutes. Working Homework – This is the type of homework that the teacher reviews in class the next day. This type of homework cannot be made up. If this assignment is not completed, then the student’s Habits of Mind grade will be affected. Graded Homework – This is the type of homework that the teacher collects and grades. This type of homework can be made up until the day of the unit or chapter assessment. A 15 point deduction will be taken for a late graded assignment. The missing assignment will be listed as M (0%) in the gradebook until the end of the marking period. If it is not handed in, it will be marked incomplete (INC) at 0%.

Reading Responses/Responses to Text Grading Rubrics A 4-point grading rubric will be used to score most assignments. It is crucial that students refer to these rubrics as they work on each and every assignment. All rubrics will be located in the Reader’s Notebook, on Google Classroom, and on my website.
