One of the most important details of Columbus’ voyage was that everything was unknown. They had no idea where they were going, or what they were going to find. Can you identify what kind of emotions these sailors must have experienced? (Turn and talk)

At exactly 2:00 in the morning on this day Columbus and his crew landed on small island that is now apart of the Bahamas, and named it “San Salvador”

Independent Practice Read a passage titled “Columbus’s First Voyage” and answer the following comprehension questions. What is the central idea of this passage? What are two details supporting the central idea? Closure While Columbus did not know he had found a new world, his discovery is one of the most important in our human history, and the impact of his discovery will shape what we learn about as we move forward. Summarize todays lesson, and make a prediction on a post it note as to what might happen next in American history.
