This IS Tiger Territory! Become a Top Tiger by learning the following skills @ Your Media Center: Effective Research Skills Reading for Pleasure Reading and Evaluating Information Technology Proficiency

Your media center can help you become a literate user of information. When you can use information effectively, anything is possible! Your media center can help you become a literate user of information.

Being prepared and getting off to a good start are important to your success! We want to help you achieve… above and beyond!

What can you find in the media center?

Fiction -Located along the back wall of the media center, shelved by author’s last name

Biography Short, diagonal bookcases on the right.. In order of subject’s last name

Middle of media center, back bookshelf, collection of short stories Story Collection Middle of media center, back bookshelf, collection of short stories

Graphic Novels, Anime, Comic Books, Manga Located on behind digital audiobooks/ playaways

Nonfiction Short, diagonal bookshelves - in numeric order according to Dewey Decimal Classification

Search for materials in the media center using the media center catalog. Select the catalog tab in order to begin your search:

You have the option to search by keyword, title, author, subject, and series.

Your search results will include the number of books currently available and the number of materials owned by the media center.

You may also use visual search and then select the category Books We Love to search for titles by genre or interest.

Don’t forget to by the rules.. 1. Need a media center pass signed by a teacher during the day. 2. Materials are checked out for two weeks. 3. Magazines are due back in 3 days. 4. Students are allowed a maximum of 3 items checked out at one time. 5. Overdue books = a fine of .10 cents per day. 6. You cannot check out books with fines or overdues.

Additional information: Need ID to check material out Before school and during the day, students must have a signed pass. During lunch, students need to have a pass from a teacher. IDs are made during 1st period announcements. No pass needed after school

How do I check out a book? Books can be checked out for a two-week period. The two weeks are school days (weekends and holidays do not count). You must have an ID to check out your book. You may renew a book two times. Students may check out up to three books. You may not check a book out: Without your ID If you owe fines If a book is overdue

How do I check out a magazine? We subscribe to many GREAT magazines for just about any interest you have – from skateboarding to celebrity gossip! BACK issues of magazines can be checked out. If the magazine has a black line drawn on the cover, it’s a back issue. Most back issues will be placed in the basket above the story collection bookshelf. Magazines can be checked out for 3 days. Always return the magazine holder with the magazine.

Other resources you can use in the media center include: The media center’s Reading Rocks blog. Here, students can post their own book reviews and give feedback. The media center webpage has homework help in every subject area, links to cool sites and fun games, and search engine suggestions. See what we have to offer!

For fast checkouts, have your ID ready. You should receive a receipt when you check a book out. On the receipt, you will find the due date.

Return books at the front desk anytime during the day Return books at the front desk anytime during the day. Please place the book in the book drop slot. Never ask someone else to return a book for you. You are responsible for your book. You have the option to renew the book instead of returning it if you need more time to read.

Fines and overdue notices will be delivered to your homeroom teachers Fines and overdue notices will be delivered to your homeroom teachers. Please take care of these as soon as possible. When you come in to pay a fine, make sure you have a receipt. Never pay a fine and leave without a receipt.

Reminders…. Never check a book out for someone else – you’ll be held responsible. Don’t expect a fine notice or overdue notice to “remind” you to turn in books – your check out receipt has the due date. If you need to keep a book longer than 2 weeks for an assignment, come by and renew it. Turn in late books ASAP – even if you owe a fine and do not have the money to pay for it that day.

Just remember…Taking material from the media center without checking it out is theft! All books are for you to enjoy…just make sure you check them out!

Here to use a computer? Follow sign in procedure. Classes signed up have first priority over computer use. Must have signed pass for research. Computers are for schoolwork only. Printing is .10 per page.

The Media Center is NOT a place for……. Hanging out with your friends and getting out of class; Taking a nap on the couches; Just to hang out during lunch; Playing on the computers.

Hope to see you @ the media center soon~! The media center is a great place to……. Read and relax Check out new titles Research Work on homework, group reports, projects, blog and Participate in reading programs and celebrations! Hope to see you @ the media center soon~!
