Prohibition The Woman’s Christian Temperance Union started pushing local and state governments to forbid the sale or use of alcohol. The Anti-Saloon League took over and pushed for the ban of all alcohol nationwide 18th Amendment to the Constitution passed on January 16, 1919 21st Amendment passed in 1933, states made their own laws on alcohol
