A. Facts of Contagion

What Disease? * KJV, RSV, NASB, NKJV have “leprous disease, leprosy.” NIV has “infectious skin disease.” The description includes spreading mildew in garments (13:47-59) and houses (14:33-53). The same word, translated “leprosy,” is used throughout. Fundamental idea: spreading surface infection, usually with discoloration. Easy to mistake.

B. Significance of Contagion

Clues about Spiritual Significance * Spreading disorder is the basic violation. The person is excluded from the community (13:45-46). Guilt offering required in the process of cleansing a person (14:1-32). Priest applies blood and oil to the infected person (14:14-18). What does it symbolize?

Answers from Leviticus 13-14 Remember the picture of contagion spreading? 1 God really warned the people, didn’t he? 2 3 Is the gang spiritually contagious? I guess it is.

Spiritual Contagion “Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Cor. 15:33; see Prov. 22:24-25). “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked …. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).

Spreading Holiness 1 What does Christ spread to us? Christ made me new. So I must be a light in the dark.
