Migration Crisis in Europe: Data Collection and Information Management by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) IOM Belgrade - Serbia 24 June 2016 Budapest, Hungary

Start of activities IOM Serbia initiated its activities in September 2015, upon official request of the Serbian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mr. Aleksandar Vulin, Chairman of the Government Working Group on Mixed Migration Flows, at the meeting with the IOM Director General in Geneva. Prior to that, IOM Serbia staff were present in the field to monitor the situation and to discuss with the government the contingency planning and most urgent needs. The first funding (Migration Emergency Funding Mechanism - MEFM) was used to hire staff in the field locations and to cover entry and exit points, but also to increase the capacity of relevant government institutions.

Activities and implemented projects as from September 2015 in response to the on-going crisis IOM mobile teams deployed to the borders with FYRoM, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary. As from September 2015 up to April 2016, IOM Serbia operated with 65 field staff covering 4 border areas in three shifts (24/7).

Current Activities Currently IOM Serbia operating with 35 field staff covering entry/exit points AVR support as from February 2016 (41 migrants assisted through AVR program) As of 25th May upon official government request mobile teams present at both Kelebija and Horgos border crossing points with Hungary. IOM Serbia deployed 8 field staff members and 3 interpreters for Arabic and Farsi

Current Activities Increasing technical capacities in the camps/reception centres (refurbishment of the Reception center Adasevci (close to Sid) and refurbisjment of the premises for unaccompanied minors in Belgrade) Capacity building of BP – development of handbook/SOP for managing massive influx of migrants Traning of Border Police officials in managing the migration crisis (120 Border police officials trained)
