Review 2010-11 What we did What effect it had What we plan to do this year How you can get involved There is lots more information in the members’ report included in your pack

What we did 2010-11 E-Resources & Publications Support & Advice Courses Research & Campaigning

E-Resources & Publications www.tamba.org.uk 20,000 visitors a month. Updating in 2012 Free content continues to grow. 218 minutes of video clips, downloadable guides & factsheets. Peer to peer message boards 10K users (8K), FB 4,5k (2k) twitter @tamba_twins_mb 500 Published new guides on Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome and Neonatal Care. Over 16,000 free guides, handbooks and magazines sent out – everyone in UK who is expecting can receive a free pregnancy guide in the post and download all the others. Continue to build and develop our online material in response to feedback. Adding to our expert publications. Giving away lots to expectant parents for free.

Support & Advice Demand for support remains strong. New pnd & ttts online support groups. Will continue to develop. Twinline answered 1,183 calls . Calls becoming more complex. Average length of call 12.5 minutes (11.8) Asktwinline – email support service 109 emails (60). Specialist support groups – bereavement, higher multiples, special needs acted as a link for over 100 families. Honorary consultants received over 73 (60) detailed individual cases.

Courses Ante-natal Classes 660 (420) parents attended a day long class. Preparing for Parenthood classes 1,300 (650) parents attended these two hour sessions either with Dr Cooper or regional volunteers. Parenting Classes (1-5 years) 300 (250) families received guidance at parenting classes.

Research & Campaigning Health Commissioned a report by NPEU into preg & birth experiences. Worked with NICE to produce a new Multiple Pregnancy guideline for professionals. Finances Commissioned a report by NPI into the consequences of benefit changes. Education Worked with Dept of Education to amended the school admissions code.

What effect did it have? Guides and preg courses = reduce PND, feel less overwhelmed, and arrange more help (Tamba research 2011 not published) Our classes for parents with children 1-5 years result in increased knowledge and improved family relationships Our clubs network and messageboards result in less isolated parents Twinline & support groups = greater parental confidence New guidance for health professionals & a baseline benchmark of care to measure from. Finance report – took to a meeting with the relevant Minister and continue to lobby Secured a change in the school admissions code to prevent twins, triplets or more being split up against their will when starting school

What we will prioritise 2011-14 We have identified the following strategies to achieve our mission over the next three years. Increasing awareness of our activities among parents Increasing awareness of our activities among professionals Increasing awareness of our activities among opinion formers and funders Increasing the number of families we support and improve the support they receive during pregnancy and the first few weeks Increasing the number of families we support and improve the support they receive during the early months and years Increasing the financial support our families receive

What we will do in 2011-12 Increase our media engagement to raise awareness among expectant parents & send out free guides to even more families Expand our antenatal (day long), preparing for parenthood (2 hour) and parenting with multiples in mind (day long) classes, Campaign to ensure Governments improve health care services for expectant and new families Build new and stronger relationship with stakeholders able to help us improve health care services Expand our fundraising capacity to enable us to develop our support services and deliver further social and medical research.
