Christ and Islam Galatians 1:6-10

Brief Review Islam originated with Muhammad Lived from 570-632 AD Claimed to be a prophet of Allah, his name for god Koran was Allah’s revelation to him

This Study Book has led many to commit violent acts What does it say about Jesus? Why are more Muslims not violent?

Teaching Filled With Errors Not divine Not the Son of God, and no godhead (Surahs 4:171; 5:119)

An-Nisa’ 4:171 “O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion nor utter aught concerning Allah save the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers, and say not ‘Three’ - Cease! (it is) better for you! - Allah is only One God…”

An-Nisa’ 4:171 (Conclusion) “Far is it removed from His Transcendent Majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender.”

al-Ma'idah 5:119 “Allah saith: ‘This is a day in which their truthfulness profiteth the truthful, for theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they are secure for ever, Allah taking pleasure in them and they in Him. That is the great triumph.’”

Teaching Filled With Errors Not divine Not the Son of God, and no godhead (Surahs 4:171; 5:119) Does confirm His virgin birth, but has him speaking from the cradle (Surah 19:20, 21, 30)

Maryam 19:20, 21 “20 She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste? 21 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me. And (it will be) that We may make of him a revelation for mankind and a mercy from Us, and it is a thing ordained.

Maryam 19:30 30 He spake: Lo! I am the slave of Allah. He hath given me the Scripture and hath appointed me a Prophet,”

Teaching Filled With Errors Not divine Not the Son of God, and no godhead (Surahs 4:171; 5:119) Does confirm His virgin birth, but has him speaking from the cradle (Surah 19:20, 21, 30) Only an apostle and prophet (Surahs 2:87, 253; 3:45; 33:7)

al-Baqarah 2:87 “And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), and We supported him with the Holy spirit…

al-Baqarah 2:87 (Conclusion) Is it ever so, that, when there cometh unto you a messenger (from Allah) with that which ye yourselves desire not, ye grow arrogant, and some ye disbelieve and some ye slay?”

al-Baqarah 2:253 “Of those messengers, some of whom We have caused to excel others, and of whom there are some unto whom Allah spake, while some of them He exalted (above others) in degree; and We gave Jesus, son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty) and We supported him with the holy Spirit.”

al-Baqarah 2:253 (Conclusion) “And if Allah had so willed it, those who followed after them would not have fought one with another after the clear proofs had come unto them. But they differed, some of them believing and some disbelieving. And if Allah had so willed it, they would not have fought one with another; but Allah doeth what He will.”

al-Imran 3:45 “(And remember) when the angels said: ‘O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, illustrious in the world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah)’”

al-Ahzab 33:7 “And when We exacted a covenant from the prophets, and from thee (O Muhammad) and from Noah and Abraham and Moses and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant;”

Teaching Filled With Errors Not divine (Concluded) Model of wisdom and virtue (Surahs 43:57, 63)

al-Zukhruf 43:57 “And when the son of Mary is quoted as an example, behold! the folk laugh out,”

al-Zukhruf 43:63 “When Jesus came with clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty), he said: ‘I have come unto you with wisdom, and to make plain some of that concerning which ye differ. So keep your duty to Allah, and obey me.’”

Teaching Filled With Errors Not divine (Concluded) Model of wisdom and virtue (Surahs 43:57, 63) Disciples called Muslims (Surah 3:52)

al-Imran 3:52 “But when Jesus became conscious of their disbelief, he cried: ‘Who will be my helpers in the cause of Allah?’ The disciples said: ‘We will be Allah’s helpers. We believe in Allah, and bear thou witness that we have surrendered (unto him).’”

Teaching Filled With Errors Other false claims Believed and taught the same message as Adam, Moses, and the other prophets (Surahs 2:136; 3:3, 84; 4:163; 42:13) Did not die on the cross (Surah 4:157)

Teaching Filled With Errors Other false claims (Concluded) Raised up to heaven by Allah, preserving Him from death (Surah 3:55) Performed many miracles, some of which are found only in lore (Surah 5:113) Predicted the ministry of Muhammad (Surah 61:6)

Two Types of Muslims Peaceful Fortunately, they seem to be a majority They say the “jihad,” or holy war is an inner struggle to be faithful Preach tolerance toward other religions, and are much like the “liberals” who ignore the Bible

Two Types of Muslims Radical, fundamentalist, militant Seem to be in the minority “Jihad” has to do with confronting all perceived enemies of Islam One who dies in this struggle is ushered into paradise to enjoy the company of 70 virgins and be comforted

Two Types of Muslims What does the Koran teach about “Jihad?” Passages lend support to both views Such contradictions not found in the Bible Those who take this approach are murderers, not martyrs

Conclusion Much more could be said Remember they have a soul
