Liberty Enlightening the World The story of the Statue of Liberty or known as the Liberty Enlightening the World.

Ellis Island was incorporated as part of the Statue of Liberty National Monument on May 11, 1965. Passengers who entered the United States through the port of New York were legally and medically inspected at Ellis Island.

The complete and proper name for the statue is “Liberty Enlightening the World.”

Liberty was to be represented by a woman in a robe with a spiked crown on her head and broken chains lying at her feet.

The Statue of Liberty was designed in the 1870's by a famous sculptor from France, named Frederic-Auguste Bartholdi

Mr. Auguste Bartholdi, wanted to build a statue, which would represent the idea of American liberty and independence.

He wanted the statue to be a symbol of the friendship between France and America.
