Using the Scientific Method “Bubble-ology Lab” 1. State the problem/Ask a Question. Which brand of soap will allow me to make the biggest bubbles? 2. State your hypothesis. If cost determines the size of the bubbles, then the most expensive brand will create the largest bubbles. 3. State your prediction. Palmolive will make the biggest bubbles.

4. Data Table Answers will vary. Trial 1 + Trial 2 + Trial 3 = Total Take total and divide by 3. Answers can be rounded to the nearest tenth.

5. What is the dependent variable in this experiment? Bubble diameter/size

6. What is the independent variable in this experiment? Soap brand

7. Conclusion (Use complete sentences.): Answers will vary.

8. According to the data, does the most expensive brand of soap produce the largest bubbles? Answers will vary.

No, there are too many experimental errors. 9. Based on the data, can you say for certain that a specific brand of soap is the best soap? Explain. No, there are too many experimental errors.

Answers will vary. Some general examples include… 1. technique 10. List/describe some experimental errors that may have occurred during the procedure that may be responsible for some of your results. Answers will vary. Some general examples include… 1. technique 2. work surface 3. equipment 4. soap concentration 5. etc.

11. What are some other experiments that could be done to determine which soap is the best brand? Answers will vary and should address ways to eliminate the previously mentioned experimental errors.
