Drugs and Consciousness Addiction: you crave the drug just to feel normal. Distort perception, change moods, delusions and hallucinations

Depressants Slow the activity of the nervous system Alcohol Intoxication: Drunkenness (root is toxic which means poison) Affects judgment as well as motor function Alcoholism is a major problem Liver problems, Heart problems and Cancer

Depressants Cont. Narcotic Root word narke = numbness Depressants usually used to relieve pain Morphine, heroin and codeine Addiction to morphine AKA soldiers disease Heroin was the hero Intravenous use Horrible side effects and withdrawal

Stimulants Increase the activity of the Nervous system Nicotene Amphetamines Stay awake and reduce appetite Used by soldiers in WWII Many forms Hallucinations and delusions
