H.O.P.E. Valencia High School’s At Risk Programs Presented by: Joey Davis AP Valencia High School

H – House & O – Opportunity P – Program E – Endeavor

It is the mission of VHS H. O. P. E It is the mission of VHS H.O.P.E. to provide all that is needed to ensure the successful transition to and completion of, all that is required in high school. VHS H.O.P.E. helps students achieve the academic success they have always been capable of, but had yet to realize. It is this realization that brings “hope” where once there was none.

Overview Valencia High School – No additional funding (not Title I) highly diverse, attendance issues, motivational issues, struggling 9th and 10th grade students (continuation for 11th and 12th) No additional funding (not Title I) For 9th and 10th grade at risk students no solutions . . . Already had an “At-Risk Counselor” -- caseload of 75 -- 9th graders

9th Grade House Students selected in cooperation with middle school Three Teachers (hand picked) and three core subjects (Alg 1A, Earth Science, Lang Arts 1) Common Prep – planning and collaboration 75 students MAX!

10th Grade Opportunity 20 students deficient by 30 credits (or more), one teacher Credit recovery World History, ASCP, Sociology, Comparative World Religions, Psychology, Contemporary World Affairs, Basic Skills. Language Arts, Science, and electives done in regular ed. Math is done with a different teacher in the same room Five classes in four hours.

9th grade House Academic Stats Students Entering GPA: 1.49 Students Current GPA: 2.17 Total Number of “F’s” in the Four Quarters of 8th Grade Year: 516 Total Number of “F’s” in First Two Quarters: 93 Students Who Have Improved Their GPA: 83% Students Entering with a 2.00 or Higher- 12% Students Currently with 2.00 or Higher- 62% Students Currently with a 3.00 or Higher- 15%
