Team Setup

Team Values and Norms Punctual Thorough Accurate Each team member will be prompt and arrive at the team meetings on time. If an unexpected conflict comes up, the absent team member will notify at least one team-mate prior to the expected absence. An absent team-member should confirm that a team-mate has received their message (in person, voice mail, email, etc). Thorough Each team member will complete their tasks thoroughly and completely, so that the work does not have to be re-done by a peer on the team. If a member does not know how to complete a task, feels overwhelmed, or needs assistance then the member notifies peers, and seeks assistance either from a peer, the faculty guide, a faculty consultant, or another person. Accurate Each team member completes their work accurately and in a way that can be easily checked for accuracy by peers and the faculty guide. All work is fully documented and easy to follow. Professional and Ethical Each team member gives credit where credit is due. All work completed includes citations to appropriate literature, or sources of assistance. If a team member has gotten assistance from a publication or individual, then that assistance or guidance is fully documented in the reports prepared. Each team member is honest and trustworthy in their dealings with their peers. Committed Each team member will contribute an equal share to the success of the project.

Phase Summary During this phase we completed the following: Informed of our Project to be completed in Senior Design Created a Problem Statement which summarized out Senior Design Project Created Customer Requirements based off the information provided to us from our customer Defined Engineering Requirements based off the Customer Requirements that we created Appropriate Use Case Scenarios based off of start and end products Prioritized our Engineering Requirements based off of House of Quality spreadsheet Benchmarked processes and materials that are related to our project Determined the risks involved with our project

Problem Summary The purpose of this project is to design and develop a mechanical mechanism that will convert used plastic bottles into a usable polymer rope product. The machine is to be deployed to developing countries, such as Haiti, where it will empower recycling efforts and generate income for the poorest citizens. Due to intense environmental operating conditions and budget constraints, the machine will be as robust as possible while utilizing cheap common components for ease of manufacture and repair. The project targets are to integrate the design of a current plastic string creation device into a rope generation machine. Emphasis will be placed on ease of use, operational robustness and product quality. The cumulative result is to be a functional prototype including the plans to be scaled for manufacture and implementation in the field. The design and prototype will be marketed to NGOs who emphasize in recycling empowerment and trash distribution solutions for developing nations.

Use Scenario Scenario 1: Village purchases machine for community recycling hub. Citizens can take in bottles and receive the rope product in return. To raise the standard of living of the citizens and clean up the community. Scenario 2: Individual or company purchases machine to generate revenue and sell a quality product on the market. To generate a profit and a usable product. Scenario 3: Environmental NGO distributes the machine amongst communities in developing nations to fulfill their mission statements. Help eliminate plastic bottle waste in ecosystems
