Hanover Central High School January 19, 2017 Financial Aid & Private Schools

Private schools discount tuition significantly. In 2016-17 average published tuition and fees at private not for profit 4 year colleges nationally was $33,480. Average net tuition and fees paid was $14,190. Net = tuition and fees minus grant aid. College Board – Trends in Higher Education

In Indiana there are 31 private, nonprofit colleges and universities. In 2014/15 93% of ICI first time FT freshmen received gift aid. Averages: Institutional Gift Aid $17,978 (83%) State Grant 5,572 (30%) Federal Grant 4,005 (20%) Source IPEDS NCES

All schools that participate in Title IV programs are required to post a net price calculator. The calculator yields an estimated net price of attendance (cost of attendance minus grant and scholarship aid) based on what similar students paid in a previous year.

http://nces.ed.gov/collegenavigator also has info on average gift aid. INCOME 2014/15 Total Costs % Receiving 2014/15 Avg gift Dartmouth $65,133 46 $41,963 Notre Dame $62,461 55 $34,552 Rose-Hulman $58,740 99 $17,634 Valparaiso University $47,760 91 $22,809

ICI research --- In Indiana 15% of undergrads are ICI but we award 29% of degrees.

ENROLLMENT DASHBOARDS 5/28/2018 The real cost of staying in school an extra year is the foregone wages. Avg starting salaries 2014 --- Business $54,366 Engineering $61,114 Liberal Arts $38,049 Nursing $55,300 NACE – National Association of Colleges and Employers 9/12

ENROLLMENT DASHBOARDS 5/28/2018 In your college search: Never rule out a school because of “sticker price” 1. Apply to schools that have your academic program and values, and then 2. Apply for scholarships and file the FAFSA to determine your “net price”.
