Making Grammar Fun! Workshop for parents 7th October 2016 Alexandra Martin

What are we doing this morning? How do we teach grammar at St Catherine’s? Expectations from the curriculum. Have a go yourselves! Questions and helpful tips for home.

In EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 Daily phonics – learning to spell, not just read. Spotting grammar and punctuation rules in books. Lots of sentence practice – not just in English. How can we include more information in our sentence? How can we say the same thing in a different order?

In Years 3 - 6 Spelling patterns – investigate the rules – daily practice. Weekly grammar lessons to support writing sessions. What do real authors do? Why? Learning from each other.
