Prechill vs. Non Prechill Kentucky Bluegrass Prechill vs. Non Prechill

AOSA Rules Petri dish 15C – 25C Light Preliminary Count 10 days Final Count 21 days Potassium Nitrate Prechill at 10C for 5 days

Objective of the Referee Comparing germination percentage between prechill and non prechill Whether one method has an advantage over the other To survey the uniformity among participant laboratories

Sample A Was harvest in August 2013 Claimed 85% Germination

Sample A Week 1

Week 2

Final Week

Sample B Was harvested in August 2012 Claimed 85% Germination

B Sample Results Week 1

Week 2

Final Week

Sample C Was harvested in December 2010 Claimed 80% Germination

C Sample Results Week 1

Week 2

Final Week

Combined Data Results There were 16 total participants Result is the average of all the participants data for each sample Result was compared between prechilled vs non prechilled samples

Prechill vs Non Prechill

Analysis df Mean F Source of variation Square Value Prob A N A L Y S I S O F V A R I A N C E T A B L E df Mean F Source of variation Square Value Prob Labs (L) 16 46.233 4.464 *** Seed Lots (SL) 2 124.625 12.032 *** Chill va no-chill (C) 1 0.094 0.091 ns (SL) x (C) 2 3.500 0.338 ns Error 75 10.358 Coefficient of Variation: 3.78%

Conclusions Noticed higher germination percentages during the first week for prechilled samples Prechilling treatment did not have significant impact on the germination percentage

Special Thank You Thank you to all participants Dr. Elias Sabry from Oregon State University for data analysis Seedway LLC, especially Jason Perrault for providing the samples Nishit Patel from PA Seed Laboratory for putting the samples together.
