Presentation Of Business Ethics Myths about Business Ethics

Business Ethics Business ethics is the study of proper business policies and practices regarding potentially controversial issues, such as corporate governance, insider trading, bribery, discrimination, corporate social responsibility and fiduciary responsibilities. (www.investopedia.com) Business ethics are moral principles that guide the way a business behaves.

Myths about Business Ethics We learn ethics as little kids, not as adult Sitting in behavior does not change your behavior; only incentive change your behavior We all know what is right and it is just a matter of doing it. Ethics is a matter of opinion: it’s just a matter of personal values. There is no objectivity.

MYTH 1 We learn ethics as little kids, not as adult Ethical maturity grows with cognitive maturity Ethics requires brainpower Developmental psychology verdicts that people become more ethical as they grow older, People start learning ethics from childhood,

MYTH 2 Sitting in behavior does not change your behavior; only incentive change your behavior Is this true? If this was true, then why children are sent to school? Why we learn BBA? Learning brings relatively permanent change in behavior caused due to practice. Why offices give training and conduct seminars?

MYTH 3 We all know what is right and it is just a matter of doing it. Right and wrong is the matter of personal choice Society must approve our decision as a whole If we know what is right then why we often be heinous act? If we all know what is right and act faultlessly then why we learn ethics?

MYTH 4 Ethics is a matter of opinion: it’s just a matter of personal values. There is no objectivity. Ethics is the matter of personal values or personal judgment of what is right or wrong. It’s associated with moral reasoning, however, the reasoning must be accept by a large number of people or society.

MYTH 5 Ethics and Business do not mix Ethics and Business are separate things, Business has major objective of earning profit and everything else is secondary, If law is fulfilled then we are ethical,

MYTH 6 Ethics in business is relative Ethics in business is not compulsory Ethics is contingent in business, Ethics is applied in accordance to the demand of situation

OTHER MYTHS Business ethics is more a matter of religion than management Business ethics is a discipline best led by philosophers, academics and theologians Business ethics is superfluous. It only asserts the obvious: ‘Do Good’ Business ethics is the new policeperson on the block Business ethics is a matter of the good guys preaching to the bad guys

OTHER MYTHS Ethics can’t be managed Business ethics and social responsibility is the same thing Our organization in not in trouble with the law, so we’re ethical Managing ethics in the workplace has little practical relevance Retrieved from https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/20140829070013-14253689-ten-myths-about-business-ethics
