Asset Development Engineer Camille Chapman Asset Development Engineer I started my journey into engineering in 1988 through a day release working agreement to complete my HNC. Similar to today’s apprenticeships, this meant I could earn while I learn and gain valuable work experience at the same time. I joined Area 12 (previously Area 16) in 1992 and apart from taking 3 years out to start a family I have been here ever since. Over the years I have gained a wide variety of experience from dealing with routine and cyclic maintenance, damage to crown property claims and customer issues. My last 10 years have been with the value management team helping to successfully secure funding for renewal schemes. I am a STEM ambassador and more recently I have trained to become a mental health first aider. I have found that engineering can be challenging at times but it is mostly a rewarding and satisfying career – and I suppose my own career has helped to inspire my daughter who has just secured an engineering apprenticeship. I hope I can continue to inspire other girls to give engineering a go through being a STEM Ambassador. #INWED17 A-one+
