Wudu The purpose of wudu is not just to cleanse dirt and wash parts of the body, but it is also to cleanse the body of sins that may be committed They wash the hands, mouth, face, forearms and feet and a wet hand is passed over the head. These symbolise washing away sins. Eg. Gargling water in the mouth washes away bad words that have been said. Wudu is performed with water, if there is none available (ie. In the desert) then it will be performed with sand)

Adhan and Qiblah After the wudu is completed, the Salah is performed when the adhan is called Adhan is to invite worshippers to join together in worship and in remembrance of Allah After all the preparations, the worshipper is ready to face Allah. In order for their Salah to be valid, Muslims must turn to face the Qiblah which is in the direction of the Ka’bah in Makkah

Salah It is compulsory for each Muslim to perform 5 daily prayers at set intervals throughout the day Salah can be performed at any place, either home, the workplace or at a mosque. Men are recommended to attend the Mosque for Salah whenever they can Parents are advised to encourage young children to start prayer before they reach puberty so they can join in the ritual

Rak’ah

Tasks Draw a flow diagram showing the process of prayer, with a brief description of what they mean ‘It doesn’t matter when you pray, as long as you do it very day’ Do you agree? What would a Muslim say to this? Wudu Adhan
