Hilltop House Society Breanna

About Hilltop House Society The society was founded in the late 1980s and was renovated in 2009 Behner Dr. it is connected to our Hospital (SGH) It is a volunteer organization They give the residents a fun, happy environment amongst the activities they provide Registration Number: 887832269RR0001 Brodie

Their Philosophy of care (Mission) The society itself provides activities and their daily needs such as Books, Wheelchairs, Games, Knitting, and a welcoming environment. Hilltop House mission is to provide a safe and caring environment with helpful staff. They make sure no one is left alone and neglected they provide variety of fun activities which improve the life of the elderly. “The dedicated staff and volunteers as well as community partners will strive to maintain a caring, safe and resident centered environment.’’ Ajay

What activities do they do The type of activities they do are Friday Night Dinners which most of them enjoy and look forward to. Their average day consists of Brain Activities, Physical activities, Wii, Gardening and going for a walk around the facility. Their handyvan is what the residents enjoy most because it gets them away from Hilltop, they can show themselves independance and enjoy a nice day out. Nick

What will the grant be going to? The 5000$ grant will go towards a new van or repairs on the existing one. to help with fuel costs for transporting residents to provide more activities such as floor curling, board games, activities around town, books and knitting Breanna

How can you volunteer? It is easy to volunteer at Hilltop, they are always welcome to new people and they could use many more young teens. Volunteering in Hilltop means Helping the elderly Playing variety of games like Wii Keeping them company Taking them for walks There for support and company Brodie

Where do they get their funding? Hilltop house gets most of their funding from the Squamish community from donations. Their main source of funding is from their society through fundraising. Ajay

Fundraising activities They host some annual fundraising tea events that happen during Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving.They put together three teas throughout the year, they sell tea and cookies and it's a great time for all the residents and nurses to get together and have a fun time. Nick

Kim Kim has been a resident at Hilltop for 2 years, she enjoys gardening and sitting out in the sunshine. Her favorite activity is going down to Brennan Park for her brain games. Breanna

Bill Bill has been a resident at Hilltop House for 1 year and he enjoys Friday Night dinners and looks forward to them every week. His favourite activity is Wii. Brodie

Impact on residents From our interviews that he had done we had some great statements to share: “Everyone is so nice and kind” “I love the Wii, it helps keep me active” “The environment is so happy” “I love the views” From these statements we had noticed that hilltop is a great place and the society has created a fantastic atmosphere for the residents to live in. Ajay

Why we choose this Charity? Breanna- I choose this society because it is a volunteer organization I would like to become a part of and I think it's a good idea to help out the elderly and disabled in Squamish. Brodie- I choose this society mainly because my grandma was put into hilltop because of dementia. Hilltop house has made it a great home for her, I want to help her the best I can that is why I decided to do this society. All
