Duas from the Holy Quran LESSON 4 Duas from the Holy Quran Qur`an Appreciation

Learning Objectives: To know the importance of Dua To understand the difference between Dua and salaat To be aware that there are special Duas mentioned in the Holy Quran for different times in our lives

So what is Dua and when and how do we recite a Dua?

DUA DUA CAN BE SAID IN ANY LANGUAGE A PRAYER TO ALLAH (SWT) DUA CAN BE SAID AT ANYTIME DUA DUA CAN BE SAID IN ANYWAY YOU LIKE ALLAH KNOWS WHAT WE WANT BUT LIKES US TO ASK FROM HIM HE HAS INSTRUCTED US TO DO DUA IN THE HOLY QURAN

This verse in the Quran tells us about Dua:   وَقَالَ رَبُّكُمُ ادْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ  Your Lord says: “Call (do Du`a) to Me, I will answer you. إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِي Verily, those who are too proud to worship Me, سَيَدْخُلُونَ جَهَنَّمَ دَاخِرِينَ shall soon enter hell, disgraced. [al-Mu’min, 40:60]

What can we see and understand from this verse? PARTNER TALK What can we see and understand from this verse? Ask chn to work in pairs to analyse the verse. Ask for their contrubutions before showing them the answers on the the next slide.

We see from this verse that Allah not only invites us to do Du’a, He promises that He will answer our prayer. He also says that Du’a is a form of worship.

The importance of Du’a is seen in Salaat, where there is a special opportunity to do Du’a. When is this?

Qunoot is when we do dua in salaat In this lesson, we will learn the meanings of some Du’as that are found in the Holy Qur'an.

Our Lord! Give us good in this world, and good in the hereafter,   وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ and save us from the punishment of the fire. [al-Baqaráh,2:201]

Du’a 1 This Du’a shows us that we should not only ask for good things in this world, but we should remember at all times about the next world, which starts when we die. This is an excellent Du’a to recite in Qunoot and also when we do Tawaf of the Holy Ka’ba.

Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us. Verily You, and You (alone) are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing [al-Baqarah, 2:127]

Du’a 2 This Du’a was recited by the Prophets Ibrahim (A) and Isma’il (A) when they completed the rebuilding of the Holy Ka’ba.   This Du’a teaches us that after we have worked hard at anything, we should ask Allah to accept our deeds. It is recommended to recite this Du’a before starting any good work or after completing a good work, like giving a lecture or praying sunnat Salaat.

SO HOW IS DUA DIFFERENT FROM SALAAT? Chn to write down their thoughts. Remind them that we have mentioned many ways already in this lesson.

PLENARY WHY IS DUA SO IMPORTANT? WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DUA AND SALAAT? WHAT ARE THE 2 DUAS MENTIONED IN THIS LESSON? WHEN IS IT GOOD TO RECITE THEM?

MEMORISE THE 2 SHORT DUAS DISCUSSED IN THIS LESSON You may offer points or some kind of appropriate reward for those who memorise perfectly or clearly tried very hard to!
