Agenda: Part 1:. Rwy´s and Twy´s configuration at Fraport Agenda: Part 1: Rwy´s and Twy´s configuration at Fraport Lighting system and configuration for Rwy and Twy Back up systems for Rwy´s and Twy´s lighting Part 2: Future systems to keep the Rwy´s and Twy´s safe Tacsys/Capts Tacsys/Etna

Layoutplan Rwy/twy lighting in the ATC and Apron Tower at Cat II / III beginning at RWR 600m: - Here Touchdown lighting 25R and 25L on - PAPI out - TWY-CL lighting on - Stopbars and No Entree´s automatically on - additionally through bottom „ALL STB“ and selectively on/off - when selectively STB off, -after 30 sec. automatically on - failure of 1/3 or more of one Stopbar will be made visual by blinking of that STB.

Taxi Cooperative And Area Control Precision SYStem Tracking System TACSYS/CAPTS Taxi And Control SYStem Cooperative Area Precision Tracking System

TACSYS/CAPTS: Maintain Traffic Flow During Adverse Weather Conditions Representation and Control of Complete Apron Traffic Complete Coverage of all Relevant Airport Areas Clear Location and Identification of all Aircraft on the Ground

CAPTS: Utilisation of Aircraft Transponders (Mode S) TACSYS/CAPTS CAPTS: Utilisation of Aircraft Transponders (Mode S) Constantly Receiving the Mode S Transpondercodes of at Least 3 of the 19 Sensors on the Ground Processor Locates Current Position (Multilateration)

TACSYS/CAPTS data: Registers and identifies at Least 500 Targets simultaneously Covers 99,3%of the Area Position Accuracy is better than 5 m Update Rate of approx. 1 Second

TACSYS: Utilisation of available Information TACSYS/CAPTS TACSYS: Utilisation of available Information Integration of Existing Radar Systems (ASR, ASDE) and Data-Bank-Components (Mini ASCAP) Combination of Data by Sensor Data Fusion SMGCS-Data-Bank enables access of Mode-S, callsign and registration

Explanation: to fix a target via Multilateration-Systems this target must be identified by at least three receivers simultaneously. The accuracy of the target position is mainly dependent of the accurate receiver position and the geometrical configuration of the receivers (angle equation). To compensate a loss of one receiver the target has to be identified in normal conditions by al least 4 receivers (redundancy). The target location will be measured through the different signal time frames. (TOA time difference of arrival).

Safe Surface Movement Guidance TACSYS - Reasons for the Development Safe Surface Movement Guidance Complete coverage of all relevant airport areas Clear and reliable detection and identification of all aircraft and vehicles on the apron and movement area Safe, orderly and effective management of ground traffic in adverse weather conditions Fast and safe Emergency Operations Increasing traffic at major hub-airports seriously interferes with the operation of safety-relevant vehicles Regulations for fire-fighting and rescue operations in adverse weather conditions will be tightened (ICAO, Annex 14)

Onboard Safety and Ground Movement Safety: TACSYS / ETNA - Operational Aspects Onboard Safety and Ground Movement Safety: All ETNA-vehicles are equipped with a multitude of precise and reliable positioning sensors, an accurate and up-to-date database and a fault tolerant navigation software All relevant information is directly displayed to the driver to reduce response times e.g. for fire-fighting and rescue vehicles in all weather conditions The positions of ETNA-vehicles are displayed on a control station where information on tasks, routing and obstacles is transmitted Vehicle positions inside the movement area can be displayed on ramp control tower together with aircraft information

Autonomous Posi- tioning Sensors (Inertial Navigation) TACSYS / ETNA - System Functionality GPS (Global Positio-ning System) Onboard Display Central Pro-cessing Unit External Interfaces Digital Datalink Vehicle Position Information Autonomous Posi- tioning Sensors (Inertial Navigation) Fault-tolerant Navigation Software (CAPTS-Data, D-GPS, etc.) LAN Control Stations

ETNA - Major Tasks for WP2 (12/01 - 11/02) TACSYS / ETNA - Project Status and Future Tasks ETNA - Status Quo Evaluation Phase (ETNA I) successfully completed in 05/2001 Management decision to continue the development (ETNA II) ETNA II, Workpackage 1 completed in 12/2001: - Further tests and evaluation of ETNA I prototype - Compilation of Requirements Document for Workpackages 2-5 ETNA - Major Tasks for WP2 (12/01 - 11/02) Development and redesign of basic systems for onboard data processing unit, Master Control Station and Vehicle Information System (central data processing unit including communications interface) Development of low-cost navigation unit (class II) based on D-GPS in combination with software filters and additional low cost onboard sensors Integration of communications system and overall system tests In Mid 2003 an ETNA - Pre-Series System will be operational at FRA

Thank you for your kind attention Conclusions: The actual RWY/TXY system at Frankfurt Airport is in respect to Runway incursions is safe and needs not to be upgraded. The future system of Capts/Tacsys/Etna will ensure that when traffic volume and airport infrastructure will rise the runway incursions will be of no significant matter.
