As you read… Book 2 Questions What does the treatment of Thersites tell us about their world and the Greek warrior culture? How does Homer link together different epic similes to describe the marshalling of the Greek warriors? What is the function of the Catalogue of Ships? Book 3 Questions How does Homer portray the Trojans in Book 3? What evidence do you have to support your assertions? Book 6 Questions Note that, at this point, the gods are uninvolved in the fighting (unlike Aphrodite’s direct involvement in Book 3). What do you make of the interaction between Glaucus and Diomedes? What do we learn from this? What does this tell us about Greek culture? In other words, do these warriors follow any rules? What responsibilities to others do they recognize?
