Bicycle Injuries Approximately 70 percent of children ride bicycles regularly. About 15 to 25 percent of children who ride bicycles wear helmets. About 700 children are injured every day in a bicycle-related accidents. Each year, about 130 children are killed in bicycle- related accidents.

Skateboarding and Skating Injuries Every year, children sustain approximately 38,000 injuries related to roller skating or inline skating. Children sustain approximately 61,000 injuries involving skateboards every year.

How to Prevent Injuries Wear a helmet that fits properly. Every time. Helmets reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent and severe brain injury by 88 percent. Wear knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards when skateboarding and inline skating. Keep your equipment in good working order.
