Word Categories: Noun (N) Pronoun (P) Adjective (A) Verb (V) Adverb (A) Conjunction (C) Preposition (P) Interjection (I)

Noun Name for a person, animal, thing, place, Idea, activity. e.g. Mary, dog, chair, UPM, freedom, badminton

Pronoun Alternate name for a noun. e.g. he, she, it, I , you, we, they

Adjective Modifies the meaning of a noun or a pronoun e.g. big, good, tall, pink Tall man Pink shirt

Verb Expresses an occurrence, act, or mode of being. e.g. is, were, kick, went, does

He ran quickly, yesterday Adverb Modifies (tell you more about) a verb, adverb, or adjective. e.g. quickly, loudly, here, yesterday He ran quickly, yesterday

Jack and Jill went up the hill. Conjunction A word that joins words, phrases, or clauses. Eg: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so (FANBOYS) Jack and Jill went up the hill.

Preposition shows time, place, movement, direction, relationship. e.g. with, for, at, from, to

Interjection Expresses emotion. e.g. Gosh! Wow! Super! Yes!

Example: A fat boy cries. cries loudly. Article Adjective Noun Verb Adverb A fat boy cries. cries loudly.
