Genesis 2:15-17 15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Are you aware of how sin easily ensnares disciples? Sin’s Deadly Snares Are you aware of how sin easily ensnares disciples?

Sin Deceives Do you underestimate the power of sin to deceive the heart? – cf. Heb. 3:12-15 Satan masterfully uses deception to ensnare us – 2 Thess. 2:6-12 Whether it is false teaching, deceitful lusts or various other deceptions that lead to sin, we must always be vigilant – cf. Eph. 4:14, 22; 2 Cor. 11:12-15 Are we overcoming sin by God’s grace or are we overcome by the deceitfulness of sin? – 1 Pet. 2:1-2

Sin Defiles Sin defiles because it is rooted in defiance! – cf. Jude 1:8, 22-23; Tit. 1:10-16 The foundation of all sin is a basic rebellion against and rejection of God – Rom. 1:18-32 Rejection of authorities and insubordination toward God are the spirit of disobedience – Eph. 2:1-3 Do you know God’s love, that makes us alive by grace through faith, to do good and live righteously before Him? – Eph. 2:4-10

Sin Darkens Has your life been darkened by sin? – Acts 26:17-18 A dark life is fertile ground for increased wickedness – cf. 1 Cor. 15:33; 2 Pet. 2:12-17 One sin can quickly lead to many – cf. Eph. 4:17-19 Have you been delivered from darkness and led to light through Jesus? – cf. Eph. 5:8-14; Col.1:13-14

Sin Destroys Sin is always followed closely by destruction – cf. Rom. 3:9-18 Sin destroys the conscience – 1 Tim. 4:1-2 Sin separates you from God and destroys peace – Isa. 59:1-8 Have you chosen eternal destruction or eternal life through Christ Jesus, the Lord? – John 5:22-29

1 Corinthians 10:12-13 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

2 Timothy 2:24-26 24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, 25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, 26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

Hebrews 12:1-2 1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
