Shifts Within The Puritan Movement There are several transitions which occur during the Puritanism movement of American literature. The movement begins with the strict historical style writing of William Bradford. However, as the people get settled into the new society they have created, they begin to become more relaxed.

Though the writing is still religiously based, the writing does become more entertaining. In addition, women are beginning to have more of a role in the society.

Literary Significance Anne Bradstreet’s literary significance cannot be overstated. She not only is the first female poet of American literature, but she is also the first American poet. She is the first to write for entertainment purposes. She was first published in England; she was published in America posthumously.

Family Life Married to Simon Bradstreet when she was 16 years old. She deeply loved her husband. They traveled to America with her mother and father. She and Simon had eight children together.

Success Writing was not considered an appropriate task for women, but Bradstreet succeeds for several reasons: 1. Her poetry is religiously based. 2. She connects the domestic details of her life to the spiritual details of the church. 3. She reveals everyday occurrences and personal emotions.
