Poetry Analysis Read Anne Bradstreet’s poem Answer the questions on the back of the page to the best of your ability: Who/what is the speaker of the poem? What information is given that defines the speaker? Who/what is the subject of the poem? What information is given that defines the subject? What is the speaker’s attitude regarding the subject of the poem? Explain how you know, using examples. What is the controlling metaphor that the speaker uses to convey their emotions? What does it show about their attitude?

Controlling Metaphor A Controlling Metaphor is a symbolic story, where the whole poem may be a metaphor for something else. Serves as a way to organize (control) the meaning of the poem.
