Preparation for Examination

Paper 1A - Reading Check the passages Check the questions Skim the titles / sub-titles Scan the topic sentence of each paragraph Jot down notes / key words for each paragraph (use margin area) Read the questions, locate the answers

Use your OWN words in answering For MC questions, eliminate the impossible answers Look for similar sentence patterns in answers Look for the correct part of speech, use of plurals, tenses, etc. Proofread your answers

Paper 1B – Writing Task 1 Read the overall instructions carefully Define the genre required Check the no. of words (80 - 100 words) Include ALL the details needed Variety of vocab. & use of connectives

Paper 1B Writing Task 2 Choose only ONE topic Read the topics carefully Define the genre Prepare the draft / mind map Jot down the possible vocab. Make use of the materials in themes

Use topic sentence for each paragraph Check the use of names / format required Allow at least 5 mins for proofreading
