The Decision-Making Process These are steps that enable you to make a healthful decision. What responsible decisions have you made this week? These steps are there to help YOU make decisions that protect your rights and health while respecting the rights and health of others. Often, you will find it helpful to seek advice from those with more experience (Mrs. Curry/other teachers/peers/parentals/guardians)

The 6 steps of the decision-making process What do you think could be the first step? 1st step of the decision-making process is to State the Situation. Examine the situation and ask yourself: ”What decisions need to be made? Consider all health information and who else is involved.

The 6 steps of the decision-making process

What are the 6 major steps for the decision-making process? Step 1: identify the situation- examine and ask yourself: What decisions need to be made? Step 2: List the Options Step 3: Weight the possible outcomes Step 4: Consider values Step 5: Make a decision and act on it Step 6: Evaluate the decision

The 6 steps of the decision-making process Step 2: List the options. What are the possible choices you could make? Share your options with parents/guardians/siblings/teachers. Ask for their advice.

The 6 steps of the decision-making process 3RD STEP: weigh the possible outcomes: H (healthful) – what health risks will this option present? E (ethical) – does this choice reflect what you and your family believe is right? L (legal) – does this option violate any local/state/federal laws? P (Parent Approval) – Would your parents/guardians approve this choice? 4th STEP: Consider Values: Values are ideas, believes and attitude about what is important that help guide the way you live

The 6 steps of the decision-making process 5th step: Make a decision and act on it! 6th step: Evaluate the decision.. Reflect on what happened. What was the outcome? How did your decision affect your health and those around you? What did you learn?

APPLYING HEALTH SKILLS… Cari’s friend wants her to skip school to go to the beach with them.
