Background Information Hooker decided to become a Puritan minister while at Cambridge He became a very influential and well-known preacher in Chemlsford The Anglican Bishop of London, William Laud, ordered Hooker to abandon his Puritan practices and beliefs In attempt to escape prosecution, he eventually fled to Holland July 10th, 1633 - immigrated to Boston aboard the “Griffin”

Disagreement with the Puritans Anne’s discussion groups created issues. The Puritans originated as religious freedom, eventually becoming a “city upon a hill”. The submissive role of women conflicted Anne’s beliefs. John Winthrop then charged her with sedition and heresy.
Banishment to Rhode Island Trial was conducted in November of 1637 Anne’s slick response to John Winthrop got her banished on March 22, 1638 When her husband died in 1642, she then fled to Long Island Sound. Anne Hutchinson died in 1643 with most of her children by angered Native Americans.
