First… Some Background

Three Points The Altar Valley School District is located in Three Points, which is about 25 miles west of downtown Tucson. Three Points, also known as Robles Junction, is a small, rural community (45 square miles) of about 5,000 residents. Our community is located adjacent to the Tohono O’Odham Reservation, and is about 30 miles from the international border. http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml###

Three Points Demographics The median household income is about $34,000, and nearly 28% of the population is below the poverty line. Most residents live in single-family homes or mobile homes. http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml###

Three Points Demographics Race / Ethnicity Percentage Of Population American Indian 10% Asian .10% African American Hispanic 51% White 38%

Three Points Demographics About 73% of residents are high school graduates. Nearly 8% of the population holds a bachelor’s degree and 5% of residents have attained a graduate or professional degree. http://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml###

About AVSD The Altar Valley School District is vast, covering nearly 700 square miles in Pima County. Student enrollment is about 680 students between two school sites: Robles Elementary School (Pre-K – 4th Grade) and Altar Valley Middle School (5th – 8th Grade).

About AVSD There is no high school in Three Points, so students are bussed mainly to Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, which is about 30 miles away.

How does your school district compare with Altar Valley? Round Robin How does your school district compare with Altar Valley?

Where We Were Prior to the 2015-16 school year, the Altar Valley School District was a BT partner, but…

Our Roadmap: AVSD All-Star Expectations In July of 2015, members of the BT Leadership Team facilitated a full day Leadership Retreat with administrators and teachers from the Altar Valley School District. The goal: To craft an action plan to guide us as we moved forward with full implementation of the BT Framework with fidelity.

Our Roadmap: AVSD All-Star Expectations To guide our action planning process, we drew from BT’s Seven Key Starting Points.

Why Do We Need A Framework? Having Arrows Pointing In All Directions Is Like Having No Direction At All.

Round Robin Which of the BT Seven Key Starting Points are areas of focus in your school / district? Explain.

Our Roadmap: AVSD All-Star Expectations The result of our one day Leadership Retreat in July of 2015: Altar Valley All-Star Expectations. This document, based on the BT Seven Key Starting Points, serves as our framework for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention.

PLC’s: How What is it that we want students to learn? How will we know if they’ve learned it? What will we do for the students who do not demonstrate mastery? How will we enrich/extend instruction for the students who do demonstrate mastery?

Numbered Heads Together Decide as a team who would like to share out with the whole group. Team reporters will stand up and share their answers.
