Curriculum *We follow the Kentucky Core Academic Standards, KCAS. *Think it, say it, write it (justify and prove). *K-PREP Testing – May 2017 *Student Data Binders

Benchmark This will be our 2nd year using Benchmark. Benchmark contains a 30 minute mini lesson with a large emphasis on small group instruction. Each student will complete the Daily 5 which consists of read to self, buddy read, write to self, word work, and small group instruction.

EnVision EnVision is our new math program that we are starting this year. It is a very technology-savvy and interactive program. Everything can be reached online such as videos, homework, games, etc. Our math rounds consist of 4 different centers such as small group, Dreambox, hands on, and independent work.

3rd Grade Writing Non Negotiables: The students are expected to write in complete sentences which include capitol letters and punctuation.

Rosetta Stone This year the students will be learning Spanish every day. At least three days a week the your child will be learning Spanish on Chromebooks and one day they will attend Spanish class.

Volunteers Contact Me Volunteer Training – Only needs to be completed once. Background Check – Every 2 years

Grading Non-graded Primary Standards-based

Please make sure that your child follows the dress code at all times Please make sure that your child follows the dress code at all times. In order to wear shorts the temperature must be higher than 70 degrees. Also, students are not allowed to wear open toed shoes.

Spelling We will not be testing students on spelling this year. Students will be using word work time to practice their spelling skills.

Chromebooks This year we have been given Chromebooks for every student to use in the classroom! This is an incredible opportunity and has opened up so many doors! The use of Chromebooks is a privilege and students are responsible for their own Chromebooks when they are being used.

Core Extension Core extension is occurs twice a day in which your child will receive instruction based on your child’s specific needs.

STEAM Mrs. Haney is collaborating with the third grade teachers to provide science grades for every student. Every child is assessed in STEAM and in the classroom on Science standards.

Homework will consist of 1 math worksheet and 20 minutes of reading every night. Make sure to sign the agenda in order to tell me that your child read. Please record the title of the book as well. We will be starting Wordly Wise later in the year. Homework Monday thru Thursday.

There are only 5 rules in the classroom. Follow directions quickly. Raise your hand for permission to speak. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. Make smart choices. Keep your dear teacher happy.
