Junior Achievement Finance Park – Taking students into the world of business, JA Finance Park is a month-long economics education program that introduces personal financial planning and career exploration. It is designed to be taught to middle grade and high school students by classroom teachers. At the culmination of this program, students visit JA Finance Park to put into practice what they’ve learned about economic options and the principles of budgeting. Assisted by their teachers and a staff of trained volunteers, they have the opportunity to actually develop and commit to a personal budget.

4th Annual Community Career Night @ MHS – Last year we offered students in grades 7-12 the opportunity to participate in our 4th Annual Career Night, with increased attendance from last year’s event by about 100+ students. Students and parents were invited to attend a keynote speech, offered by Mr. Joseph Sala, co-founder and co-owner of Swirls and Twirls yogurt. Mr. Sala presented a message of hard work and passion for everything you do in life. Students then had the opportunity to speak with representatives from each of the over 30 organizations that were represented. Students were entered into raffles for prizes donated by our many sponsors.

Nassau County Comptroller’s Entrepreneurial Challenge – Three teams from MHS participated in the 2nd NC Comptroller’s Entrepreneurial Challenge. Working in teams of 5 or more, students developed a business concept for Nassau County and presented their business plans to a team of judges, including George Maragos, the Nassau County Comptroller, at the Theodore Roosevelt Legislative and Executive Building in Mineola.

Winthrop-University Hospital Healthcare Explorers Club – Last year was another successful year for the Winthrop-University Hospital Healthcare Explorers Club. Membership continues to increase each year. This popular program gives students interested in the health care field an opportunity to learn about the many different career opportunities available to them by speaking with professionals currently working in the field. This includes the annual Healthcare Career Fair, hosted by Winthrop each year for students at MHS. Last year approximately 140 students attend the Career Fair, held onsite at Winthrop Hospital.
