Why choose distance learning?

Is distance learning for you? Motivated to work by yourself. Self-directed to read and learn from the materials and complete the assessments. Able to manage your time so you meet the deadlines set. Be organised so that you can plan your own time to study. Have access to an electronic device so that you can access the internet – via the library if necessary. If not working within the subject area prepared to do some additional research so that you can complete the assessments. Committed to completing a course that is at a distance from the college within the deadlines set. Be prepared to communicate via phone, text or email so that you can be supported fully to complete your course.

How long will the course last? Depending on the course you will have a number of assessments to complete and the deadlines for each are 3 weeks or 4 weeks. At enrolment and induction you will be provided with deadlines dates for each assessment and you will be expected to hand in your work on time. Extensions to deadlines are permitted for special circumstances and can be granted by your assessor or a member of the administration team. You will be expected to maintain communication with the administration team and your assessor. This can be via email or telephone so you will be expected to share your email address and mobile phone number.

What level are the courses? All of our distance learning courses are level 2. Equivalent to a GCSE. You will need to have basic written English and Maths skills as a minimum and be prepared to develop these skills throughout the duration of the course through support from your assessor. Basic study skills will be required. Understanding of how to ‘describe’ or ‘explain’ your answer and to be able to write without copying from another source. Support can be given for anyone with a learning disability – we hope that if you joined one of our courses that you would share this information so that we can plan how best to support you.

Our courses are supported by government funding helping the community to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
