Financial Implications of Joint Job Evaluation System Implementation McMaster University Financial Implications of Joint Job Evaluation System Implementation Lilian Scime March 1, 2007

The Tentative Joint Job Evaluation System (JJES) Implementation Plan When will “affected” CAW wage rates increase? Affected CAW wage rates will increase on April 16th 2007 (subject to change) First pay that will be calculated using new rates is May 15th 2007 When will the CAW (JJES) retro be paid? Retro to cover June 16th 2005 to April 15th 2007 will be paid on the April 15th 2007 pay (subject to change) Who will receive a retro? Any current, retired or laid off CAW staff whose wage rate increases as a result of applying the new system

The Tentative Joint Job Evaluation System (JJES) Implementation Plan How will the retro amounts be calculated? The total retro will be 2% of 2004/05 CAW payroll per year for 1 year and 10 mths The individual retro will be calculated on a “unit shares” basis, based on the agreement with the CAW Where will retro amounts be charged? To the account (s) where the “affected” CAW wages are currently charged Retro is to be considered as a current cost to the department (s) currently employing the individual

The Tentative Joint Job Evaluation System (JJES) Implementation Plan Will there be any relief to assist with retro payments? Depending on the funding source, a credit may be applied in April 2007 Research Accounts (5 & 8) A credit for the full retro covering June 2005 to April 15, 2007 will be applied in April 2007 Operating Accounts (2) A credit for the 05/06 portion of the retro, covering June 2005 to April 2006 will be applied in April 2007 Other Accounts No credit is available

The Tentative Joint Job Evaluation System (JJES) Implementation Plan What should I do for my budget? Still need to budget 2% for ongoing effect of wages increases due to implementing the JJES Will be accurate across the University but actual % will vary department by department Will there be any relief for departments who are heavily affected? Will be managed on an envelope basis

The Tentative Joint Job Evaluation System (JJES) Implementation Plan How will we learn more? The JJESC is planning joint communication and open sessions Individual communication will be directed to each CAW employee with a copy to the manager QUESTIONS????
