Mesopotamia Concept Map

Learning Target I can make connections between the different concepts of Mesopotamia The purpose of this is to be able to distinguish among, explain, and apply the relationship between different concepts we have studied for Mesopotamia.

Task You will create a Concept Map on Mesopotamia. You must include all the words from the word bank and the concept map must be in color. On the back of your concept map, complete one of the questions located on the direction sheet in a CER response. This will be due Friday, Oct. 30 at the beginning of class!

MESOPOTAMIA Critical Thinking What is the Central Idea/Topic/Point for this unit? MESOPOTAMIA

Step 1: Coming up with your Main Points With a central trunk (central point), the thickest branches are main points, and the thinner branches are subpoints of those.

Step 1: Coming up with your Main Points Now you can add the first of your main branches. Branches connect everything on your Map, radiating your thoughts and reflecting the way your mind makes associations.

Step 2: Identifying Sub Points Under each main branch, add a keyword to represent the main elements of this unit. This is not limited as this is just Organize your vocabulary words into lists that relate to the main points. By now you should know all the vocabulary words and be able to use them ALL on your Mesopotamia Concept Map Vocabulary: “Eye for an Eye” Advanced Cities Board Games Boys/men City State Clay Complex Institutions Cuneiform Developed Euphrates River Exchange Farming Fertile Crescent First Wheel Flooding Hammurabi Inventions Irrigation Canals King Laws Middle East Pictographs Plow Pottery Punishment Record Keeping Records Sailboats Scribes Silt Slaves Social Classes Specialized Workers Sumer Symbols Tablets Technology Tigris River Topography Trade Tributary Votes Written To access chapters on line: http://geography.chsd218.eisenhower.schoolfusion.us/modules/locker/files/group_files.phtml?parent=8325264&gid=922063

Step 3: Making connections between the Main Points and the Sub Points After organizing your vocabulary words into lists that relate to the main points, what are the connections/inter-relationships between the main point word to the sub point word? Example: Mesopotamia to Complex Institutions: Government System Complex Institution to Hammurabi: King of Mesopotamia To access chapters on line: http://geography.chsd218.eisenhower.schoolfusion.us/modules/locker/files/group_files.phtml?parent=8325264&gid=922063

Step 4- Creating a Rough Draft Under your list or on the back make a rough draft of your ideas. Sketch pictures, add words and start making connections Remember this is just a rough draft to get your main ideas and formatting down. Do not spend a lot of time on the picture details.

Step 5: Transfer your ideas into a final copy. Only use pencil at first to get your basic design and facts down… then go back and add color!

Your Concept Map will be graded on.. Concept Map Rubric: _____ (2 points) Clearly present ALL material learned _____ (1 point) Social Studies Vocabulary is used and explained _____ (1 point) Details are provided _____ (1 point) Material is neat and organized
