Explain a specific decision you had to make and what the outcomes of this decision were. Describe a difficult situation where you have had to change your approach in order to achieve your goals. Why do you feel ‘drive’ and ‘commitment’ are significant qualities to possess? Strong connections are essential for an effective team. Provide an example of a time you demonstrated good social skills with a colleague. Give an example of a time you had to deal with a challenging colleague or situation at work. What steps did you put in place to resolve the issue? Reflecting on your core competencies, what do you feel is your greatest strength and why? Explain as succinctly as possible why you feel this job is important within larger society.

Bad answer: Nothing to do with perseverance Lack of open body language Misjudging length of answer Talk about my favourite skill – public speaking – and how I led the Drama society at university, recruiting my whole committee, putting on 4 plays, running fundraising socials that ensured we made a profit over the year, had over 100 sign-ups. I was also in 2 of those plays which showed my ability to manage my time – one was a Shakespeare play called Macbeth that’s all about this Scottish bloke who has a dream that he’ll be king then kills loads of people and I actually got killed, and the other was this comedy written in the 1800s, set in London. Better answer: Put on event for MHA Day with aim of building understanding of prevalence of MH conditions. Speakers cancelled on the day. Could have cancelled event however sent out committee to get academic to talk on research into depression/anxiety, as well as planning in a panel event with students affected by mental health issues. Succeeded in the end – over 100 people at event, 50 sign-ups to mailing list, feedback forms suggested attendees had developed much greater understanding of MH Situation, Task, Action, Result
