Sociology Department Minors (reporting)

Reported Changes to Minors (Sociology Department) Sociology and Community and Environment Minors Change to be more content and topic focused Remove research methods and theory requirements Gerontology Minor Update electives to be in line with changes in other department course offerings (many former electives no longer taught) Criminal Justice Remove research methods requirement Addition of diversity requirement (gender, class, race, ethnicity) Update electives to be in line with changes in other department course offerings

Proposed Revision to Fashion and Textiles Major

Proposed Revision to Fashion and Textiles Proposed: increase the number of required upper division electives Original: 9 s.h. upper and lower division electives (total of 21 s.h. upper division credit in major) New: 9 s.h. upper division electives (total 25 s.h. upper division credit in major) Rationale: to meet state mandate of 24 s.h. minimum upper division semester hours in a major

Proposed Revision to Political Science Proposed: addition of new course, POLS 101 (Intro. to Political Theory) Rationale: students need basic introduction to political theory Reduction in number of allowable internship hours Original: 9 s.h. New: 6 s.h. Rationale: ensure appropriate degree content is provided Up to 3 s.h. of credit allowable through Teaching Assistantship (POLS 295), Research Assistantship (POLS 296), or Independent Study (POLS 399)

Rationale: meet State Ed. mandate for minimum upper division semester hours Proposed: Add ECON 112 as alternative option to ECON 110 (original) Proposed: Move ACCT 100 to “related work” from “required courses” Proposed: change rules for electives Original: “Must be from at least two subject areas” New: “Two must be POLS, the third must be from a subject area other than POLS. One of the three courses must have a service-learning (SL) attribute” Rationale: greater focus on POLS content; SL will connect students to general practice in development field
